Ship'ngin (Ship Engine) is an online business / SaaS starter kit that helps users make their ideas a reality, faster.
How can I start my SaaS faster?
Ship'ngin enables users to significantly reduce time-to-market by providing the basic building blocks like authentication, payments, organizations, members, CI/CD and more, out-of-the-box. This way users can start working and focus on their idea from day one instead of wasting months and losing motivation developing the boring stuff.
Why was Ship'ngin developed?
There are many SaaS starer kits out there but none was quite to our liking. They were all monolithic, trying to solve every problem with the same hammer, relying on third-party services where there is no need to, missing the very important "Continues Deployment" piece of the puzzle, hard to extend the system with new services forcing users to become part of the hammer, and so on.
What makes Ship'ngin different?
Continues Automated Deployments
Ship'ngin gives users "Continues Deployment" out-of-the-box and automates deployments through GitHub Actions allowing users to continuously deploy their projects to affordable server providers like Hetzner and using the free Cloudflare tier for DNS, CDN, E-mail, etc.
Extendable Architecture
By separating concerns into their own services (auth, payments, orgs, landing-page, dashboard, etc.) with clear and simple API interfaces, events and re-usable components, we enable users to easily implement their own ideas by using existing, or adding new services using the technologies they want and need instead of forcing them to become part of the big hammer.
Balance
We try to strike a balance between overly complicated architectures (cough Kubernetes cough) and overly simplistic architectures (just implement everything in a JavaScript monolith and lock your business in with some cloud wrapper with a nice tax attached)
Currently, that balance for us, is docker compose running on easily replaceable and cheap server providers like Hetzner or DigitalOcean.
